I was nominated for the Sunshine Award!!

I am so honored that Amy Lyre Turner nominated me for The Sunshine Award.

The Sunshine Award is awarded to bloggers whose positivity and creativity inspires others in the blogosphere.  How cool is that?  Amy was nominated and then spread the love.  She has a fabulous collection of poetry, Pieces of the Soul.  If you know anything about me and my Key to the Cursed series, you know I love “souls.”

So, the rules for accepting this award are as follows:

Link back to the person who gave me the award.
  • Answer the following questions.
  • Nominate ten bloggers for the award.
  • Link my nominees to the post and let them know about the award.
Now, for the questions!
What is your favorite Christmas/festive movie?
Ha!  Hands down is A Christmas Story.  Yes, the Red Rider BB Gun with compass in the stock.  Have you seen Ralphie lately?  Who knew he would grow up to be a hunk!
           Before                                         After
What is your favorite flower?
Roses are my absolute favorite.  The ones that are that deep blood-red color.  My hubbie gets me roses every year on Valentine’s Day.  I fall in love with him all over again!
What is your favorite non-alcoholic beverage?
C. O. F. F. E. E.
What is your passion?
I’d be crazy not to say writing.  Writing and plotting is my escape from the craziness of every day life.  It was actually only 4 years ago that I found an outlet for the stories that had been bouncing around in my head.  There is just something so satisfying about see a plot come together at the end and to read those first reviews!  Amazing!  Best high around 😉
What is your favorite time of year?
I’m very much into fall.  I’m such a Northeast gal.  I love that time of the year when the temperature changes and you get to pull out those sweaters that have been stored for the summer.  The smell and most importantly, the color of the leaves.  Reds, golds, and browns.  Can’t be beat.  Plus, the summer heat and humidity come to an end! Yay!
What is your favorite time of day?
I’m with Amy and Jennifer– so not a morning person.  I love the time in between twilight and night.  The world takes on a different color.  Maybe that’s why I’m a paranormal junkie 🙂
What is your favorite physical activity?
**snicker**  I always loved to run, but now that my joints and back are pretty beat up– I like to lap swim.  There is something so peaceful about gliding through the water.  Second to that, I’d love to scuba dive.  Sadly, it has been awhile.
What is your favorite vacation?
Ever see that Corona commercial with the couple sitting in lawn chairs on the beach, the water lapping at their feet?  Well, that would be my dream vacation, but instead of beer, I’d take a Margarita, please.  (Regular, on the rocks with salt— YUM!)
My NOMINATIONS for the Sunshine Award are… Drum roll please!

1. Tink’s Place by Dottie

2. The Bakin Goddess by Kimberly

Author Open MIC ~ Welcomes Ciara Knight

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

I love getting to meet new authors, both new, old and in between their writing careers.  Everyone’s writing journey is different.  I’m always fascinated to hear the various stories.  Some authors were born to write, starting at a very young age.  Others went to school to learn the craft.  Some, like myself, evolved or were awakened in some way.

So, let me introduce Ciara Knight.  Let’s find out about her journey:

Ciara Knight always had a passion for storytelling. At an early age, she wrote several short stories and poems, and in college she started work on her first novel. It wasn’t until late 2008 that she returned to her true passion of writing. Over the past few years she has penned five novels and joined several professional writing organizations to better her craft.

When not writing, she enjoys reading all types of fiction. Some great literary influences in her life include Edgar Allen Poe, Shakespeare, Francine Rivers and J K Rowling.

Ciara is happily married and enjoys family time. She has learned to embrace chaos, which is a requirement when raising three boys, and utilizes the insanity to create stories not of this world including, Fantasy, Paranormal, Sci-Fi, and Young Adult Dystopian.

Her first love, besides her family, reading, and writing, is travel. She’s backpacked through Europe, visited orphanages in China, and landed in a helicopter on a glacier in Alaska.

Ciara, thank you for taking the time to be with Wicked Romance today and taking over the MIC.

Ciara:  Thank you so much for having me here today, Jean. I’m so excited to chat with you and your followers. I’m curious to see what wickedness goes on here. 😉

Host:  When did writing become part of your life?  Can you describe that journey from the beginning to your debut novel?

Ciara: I wrote my first children’s novel in grammar school. Nothing that anyone could even read, but it kept me busy during summer break. I wrote some poetry in high school and short stories in college. It wasn’t until I was grown and married with kids that I focused on writing a real novel. I wrote my first one while sitting in car pool line, TKD practice, football field, and baseball field. It took a while, but once I typed THE END I was completely hooked. I wrote two more novels in half the time it took me to write the first. I started off writing Christian fiction and now I write fantasy and paranormal. I know what a jump, right?

Host:    Did your journey or focus change after that first book? How did that debut release influence your next novel and the several after?

Ciara:

I shelved the first book I wrote after many changes. After that, I took some writing workshops, and the second book that I completed was Rise From Darkness, which was released last month. It is a young adult paranormal, but the second book I wrote was released first, The Curse of Gremdon. Confused yet? I know I’ve been a few times on this journey.

Host:  You have several books out.  Can you tell us a little about each of them?

Ciara: Sure. They are all SO different.

Young adult paranormal series, Battle for Souls, has three full length novels and one prequel novella. Book I, Rise From Darkness is about a fallen angel with the hormones of a teenager, strength of an angel, and the self –control of a three year old. Gaby is a troubled young girl that lost her mother, has an alcoholic father, and soon discovers the world is full of dangerous creatures in which she may be one of them.

The Curse of Gremdon is a ‘spicy’ adult romance full of magic, love, lust, and sacrifice. In a world where marriage is forbidden, sex is only granted to male warriors, and the outer realm is full of murderous creatures. Tardon and Arianna risk the curse when they traverse the vast outer realm to retrieve serum form the Tree of Life. If successful, the Elders have promised Tardon the right to marry and Arianna the cure for her brother’s death fever.

I’ve also got a new young adult series that will release soon, The Neumarian Chronicles. The prequel Novella, Weighted, will be out in August.

  • The Great War of 2185 is over, but my nightmare has just begun. I am being held captive in the Queen’s ship awaiting interrogation. My only possible ally is the princess, but I’m unsure if she is really my friend or a trap set by the Queen to fool me into sharing the secret of my gift. A gift I keep hidden even from myself.  It swirls inside my body begging for release, but it is the one thing the Queen can never discover. Will I have the strength to keep the secret? I’ll know the answer soon. If the stories are true about the interrogators, I’ll either be dead or a traitor to my people by morning.

Host:  Okay, I’m going to ask an unfair question.  Out of all your books, what hero/heroine really spoke to you?

Ciara: I have a deep love for all my characters, but Tardon kicked my butt. He ordered me to write his story. That man does not take no for an answer. Of course, I’m not sure anyone had told him no before he met Arianna. 🙂

Host:  Pick one book.  Select 5 words that best describe your hero and then 5 words for the heroine.  Why do they make a great match?

Ciara:

Rise From Darkness

Alexander: Self-brooding, caring, loyal, guilt ridden, and determined

Gaby: Strong, independent, loving, lonely, and hopeful

They are both emotionally wounded. Only together do they become whole.

Host:  Where do you think the paranormal genre is headed?  What can we expect in the future?

Ciara: I think we’ll see more genre blending. My upcoming series, The Neumarian Chronicles is a mix of biopunk, paranormal, and steampunk.

Host:  What are you working on right now?  What can readers expect to see from you in the next year?

Ciara: I’m working on Book I of the Neumarian Chronicles, Escapement. Also, I’m working on the remaining books in The Gremdon Chronicles.

Host:  Will you be attending any conferences this year?  Or have any book signings/giveaways?

Ciara: I attended Romantic Times which broke the budget, but I hope to attend Dragoncon since it is local.

Host:  Where can readers find out more about you and your books? (Social/Web links)

Ciara: Website – www.ciaraknight.com, Twitter: @ciaratknight, Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/Ciaraknightwrites, Goodreads: http://www.goodreads.com/author/show/5127753.Ciara_Knight, and Pinterest: http://pinterest.com/ciaraknight/

Host:  Do you have a cover or covers you would like to share today?

Ciara: Here are the two first books of The Gremdon Chronicles and Battle for Souls series. Oh, I CAN’T wait to show the cover for Weighted, but I can’t yet. I hope to soon. 🙂

********************

Ciara, I want to thank you for sharing your time with us today.  Your list of novels is impressive.

Keep up the great work!  Can’t wait for your new release 🙂

Readers, if you have a question for Ciara, please post below.

HAPPY READING!!

Holiday Blog Hop ~ Best Toys of the 70’s, 80’s, 90’s

You know your old when they come out with the BEST OF’s…  Some of the bands you listened to in college are now considered CLASSIC ROCK.  So in the spirit of the Holiday, I’d like to take a stroll down memory lane. Yes, to those wonder years of the Holidays when you spent sleepless nights praying for that one toy you’ve been dying to have.

Now that I am a parent, I can appreciate my parents fighting through the stores during the holiday mad rush to get that last toy box on the shelf. Thankfully, shopping rage wasn’t as common back then, although I do remember a news team filming parents fighting over the last Cabbage Patch doll on the shelves.  Oh, the yesteryears. What fond memories….

So let us take a look at what we grew up with:

~1970’s ~

Can anyone guess what this is???

I’ll give the youngins a hint out there.  PONG was one of the first video games.  The Atari VCS 2600 was released in 1977 for $199 dollars.  There were 9 game cartridges.  I remember playing this at my best friends house for hours on end.  It was a home video game revolution.

   RUBIX CUBE

Oh, yes.  Who could forget the Rubix Cube.  Hell, if I couldn’t get but 4-sides and that was using a cheat book.  Hey, don’t give me a hard time.  I was only 7 at the time.  The Creator of this wonder was from Budapest, Hungary.  His design took the world by storm and has started to show back up in the stores.  I better go back and see if my mom still has the cheat book in her basement.

Honorable Mentions:  SIMON, Star Wars Action Figures, Uno.

~ 1980 ~

Cabbage Patch Dolls

The oh so loveable Cabbage Patch Dolls.  Now these things caused riots in the streets.  I honestly think these things were sold on the black market. I know my sister tried to sell me for one, just kidding. According to the website (click on picture) depending upon the edition, adoption fees begin at $199.00 and go up. Geez.  I’m glad I have boys.

MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE

Okay, for our male blog hoppers out there.  Who didn’t have a HE MAN or Battle Cat.  This Blogger has a dedicated site that I think you need to see.  It is an amazing collection of photographs.  You have to see it for yourself.  Click HERE.  There are rumors there is a new movie in the works.  He Man is not dead.

Other Honorable Mentions:  Pound Puppies, Care Bears, My Little Pony, Glo Worms

~1990~

pokemon cards 135x95 The 11 most amazing toys of the 1990s POKEMON

Okay, I have to say I never quite understood the cards, but my nephew probably amassed well over $500 worth of these things.  Not only were the cards an enormous hit, the cartoon was also.

BEANIE BABIES

I admit I had a few of these. More that five, less than ten.  I’m not sure where they ended up over the years, certainly not at any auctions or trading parties.  We, humans, do have the strangest fixation with collections.

Honorable Mentions:  Rollarblades, Nintendo’s Gameboy, Tickle Me Elmo

So, I hope this has brought back some great Holiday memories.  To be eligible to enter the Blog Hop give away, you must leave a comment on the blog, so  I’d love to hear what your favorite Holiday toy was growing up.

If you’d like 10 extra entries into the drawing (no obligation), please do one of the following: subscribe to Wicked Romance, follow me on twitter, or ADD my novel SOUL REBORN on your Goodreads TBR. Please let me know in your comment which you chose, so that I can give you credit.
